Abstract
Discrete role of eutectic morphology on plastic deformation and damage accumulation in cast Mg–3Ca is elucidated. Alloy with lamellar eutectic exhibits higher hardening rate at strain <0.01 than partly divorced eutectic. Overall deformation behavior is rationalized as change in load transfer behavior dependent on eutectic morphology as in metal-matrix composites.
