RECENT ADVANCES IN PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION.

This paper reviews briefly a few of the advances in public transportation, based on the author's observations in the Federal Republic of Germany and other countries. Some topics discussed are the following: the standardization of buses; trolley buses; demand-responsive transportation; track-guided buses; duo buses; light rail transit; intermodal transfer; fare systems and fare coordination; and magnetic levitation vehicles.
