Abstract
The results of some experiments on the electromagnetic emission of heat-treated spring steel are reported in this paper. Annealed specimens emitted a weak electromagnetic signal whereas quenched samples showed a very strong signal during fracture. This may be attributed to the abrupt deceleration of the accelerated energised dislocation during the creation of the new surfaces during the brittle fracture. © 1988.
