Abstract
Corrosion rates of austenitic stainless steel clad metals containing different ferrite contents were found in 5 N H2SO4 + 0.5 N NaCl. The suitability of the solution to room-temperature stress corrosion cracking of samples in the as-weld and post-weld heat-treated conditions (600, 800, and 1000-degrees-C for 1, 10, and 100 hours) was examined. The results showed that presence of ferrite or sigma in the samples increase their corrosion rates in the above solution. Post-weld heat treatment at 1000-degrees-C decreased corrosion rates of the samples. The solution was found suitable for SCC testing of weld metals.
