Abstract
The dielectric properties of the hydrogen bonded binary systems of polar liquids containing ketone and nitrile functional groups are studied. The system are: (A) acetone + acetonitrile, (B) acetone + acrylonitrile (C) 2 butanone + acetonitrile and (D) 2 butanone + acrylonitrile systems. The dielectric dispersion of the pure binary systems and their dilute solutions in a non-polar solvent namely benzene are studied. Dipole moments of the binary systems are calculated from the dielectric data using Guggenhiem's and Higasi's methods. The average relaxation time in the pure and dilute solutions is calculated from the respective Cole-Cole plots. The dipole moment increment in the binary system over the sum of the pure values shows the absence of an ionic component to the binary conformer.
