A number theory based image compression

A new number theory based image data compression scheme useful for on-board applications and ground applications is proposed. The salient feature is that it gives an optimal compression and it is simple and fast. This scheme has twin applications of image compression and encryption. It works on variable size blocks of image data. The scheme is useful for remote sensing and satellite applications. The implementation does not increase the hardware complexity.
