Rare earth cuprates as electrodes for methanol oxidation

Rare earth cuprate of composition La1.9Sr0.1 CuO4 has been evaluated as anode electrocatalyst for methanol oxidation. This material displayed significant activity for methanol oxidation in alkaline medium at room temperature. The electrocatalytic activity for methanol oxidation is better on noble metals like platinum than on perovskite oxides, though the later seems to have better stability.
