Erosive burning rate studies of composite propellants under high cross flow velocities

Abstract
Details of an erosive burning test facility to measure the erosive burning effect in solid propellants are given. Using this facility the erosive burning effect under subsonic cross flows and supersonic cross flows can be measured. From the obtained experimental results typical choked flow conditions that can occur in nozzleless motors are discussed. Erosive burning effect under supersonic cross flows at low pressures (≤5 bar) are found to be very small.
