X-RAY PHOTOELECTRON SPECTROSCOPIC STUDIES ON METALLIZED (PT, RH, RU, PD AND NI) CADMIUM-SULFIDE

Platinum, Rh, Ru, Pd and Ni/CdS have been prepared by simultaneous photodeposition of these metals on CdS. The X-ray photoelectron spectroscopic investigation of the metallised CdS shows that the surface concentrations of the metals are in the order Pd > Pt > Rh > Ru > Ni. The reduction potentials of the metal ion/metal couples (for single step reduction) are also in the above order. This explains the observed order of surface metal concentrations. The photodeposited metals are prone to aerial oxidation.
