Abstract
The lithium-ion battery is used in spacecraft applications to store electrical energy. It could be configured in a parallel-series (P-S) configuration. P-S battery incorporates equalization electronics to achieve charge balancing between the series-connected cells. An End of Charge (EoC) equalization electronics takes very small quiescent, is reliable, simple to implement and involves dissipation. A battery with equalization electronics for a P-S battery is modeled in MATLAB. The model is validated for cell and electronics performance in a spacecraft battery in orbit within a Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) voltage of 0.4 %.
