Tribological properties of cobalt - ceria composite coating

Sediment electro-co-deposition method was used to deposit particulate strengthened cobalt-ceria composite coatings on mild steel substrate from a sulphate bath. Wear properties of the coatings were evaluated against a hardened steel disc under dry sliding conditions using disc-on-disc method.The composites showed better wear resistance than pure cobalt coatings. Load and sliding velocity variations at the interface affect the wear behaviour.
