Thermodynamics of Sensible Thermal Energy Storage Systems

This chapter explains briefly about thermal energy and the significance of thermal energy storage systems. It discusses about the types of thermal energy storage systems. Sensible thermal energy storage and the technologies related to it are focused in this chapter. This chapter also presents a brief comparison between sensible heat storage and latent heat storage material. Even though the sensible heat systems are less efficient due to low heat storage capacity (per unit volume), their efficiency can be increased considerably with advancements in material science and technology. The progress in sensible heat storage systems like particle thermal energy storage is also discussed.
