Abstract
Nanoclusters are small (1 to 3 nm) nanoparticles with few tens to few hundreds of atoms. Nanoclusters of metal atoms are bridges between bulk metals and molecules because of their quantum confinement effect. The quantum confinement effect gives them fascinating properties and applications; hence their controlled Synthesis is necessary. The Synthesis of clusters depends on various parameters, including the concentration of precursor metal, ligand, and reducing agent, the solvent used in synthesis and purification techniques. This chapter deals with various synthetic methods commonly used to synthesize homometallic, alloy and large core nanoclusters like the Brust-Schiffrin method, LEIST method, co-reduction method, metal exchange method, inter-cluster reactions, among others. This chapter will help young scientists aspiring to carry out their research in cluster science.
