Abstract
Electromagnetic actuation is an evolving wireless control approach for actuating magnetic endocapsule devices. Electromagnetic actuation is performed by imparting torque and force on magnetic endocapsule devices through remotely induced magnetic fields. This paper presents the analysis of the magnetic field induced by the cylindrical electromagnetic coils for wireless actuation of magnetic endocapsule devices in the gastrointestinal tract. The magnetic field analysis includes how the magnetic flux density is attenuated with the axial distance and how the magnetic flux density and gradient vary with the current at a given axial data point. The magnetic flux density, gradient and driving forces for the actuation of magnetic endocapsule devices, are studied using an analytical model and finite element simulations. The analytical model and finite element simulations were validated experimentally. The weight of magnetic endocapsule lifted by the generated force for different axial data points was assessed.
