Abstract
Magneto-electro-elastic (MEE) materials show a significant coupling between the mechanical, electrical, and magnetic fields. A three-phase MEE composite consisting of piezoelectric and piezomagnetic phases separated by a polymer matrix would have greater ductility and formability. In this article, harmonic response of three-phase MEE beam under mechanical, electrical, and magnetic load is presented using finite element method. Numerical studies are presented for different volume fraction (vf) of the magnetic phase in the three-phase MEE composite. Studies are done for clamped-free boundary condition of the beam. Ansys 8.1 is used to validate the code developed. The influence of various coupling term is also studied. The effect of coupling terms influencing the load vector plays a major role in the generation electric and magnetic potential when subjected to magnetic and electric conditions. © 2009 SAGE Publications.
