Abstract
Cylindrical specimens were subjected to dynamic compression tests at temperatures up to 1175K for 18-4-1 up to 800K for Al-5-Si. The deformation force, punch travel and temperature during deformation were measured and temperature-flow stress curves are obtained for different strains. Metallographic studies were carried-out; in 18-4-1, adiabatic shear bands are formed in the temperature range 350K to 550K.
