Abstract
A substoichiometric isotope dilution analysis method is described for the determination of trace amounts of cadmium. The method is based on the extraction of its ion-association complex with substoichiometric amount of aliquat-336 into toluene from 6×10-3 M KI at pH 4.5. The activity of the organic extract containing cadmium-115m was measured by liquid scintillation counting. The counting efficiency of cadmium-115m was found to be 130% and down to 0.1 μg of Cd(II) could be determined in an aqueous phase volume of 50 mL. The method has been successfully applied for the determination of trace amounts of cadmium in city waste incineration ash (CRM 176), zinc metal and zinc-base die-casting samples.
