Abstract
Miraculous material progress has been made during the last century, which also saw a quantum leap as far as advancement in knowledge in various fields is concerned. Consequently, education has been gradually reshaped to meet the need of an increasingly materialistic society. However, today faced with the harsh reality of the utter failure to cater for the flourishing of a peaceful and harmonious society, we are in dire need of a major transformation in the education sector. Providing the right education will certainly be the key for ensuring sustainable development. This study analyses the current trends in the education sector and through a synthesis of the literature on the present trends in education and related fields, it argues that there is currently a paradigm shift taking place. © Common Ground, Viraiyan Teeroovengadum, T.
