Abstract
From experimental observations, the bush heat flow in the axial direction and the cyclic variation of journal temperature are found to be negligible. The excess journal temperature can, therefore, be assumed to be uniform and proportional to the heat transfer to the journal. The averaged form of energy equation used in this investigation reduces the computation time for the solution of the problem. The predictions compare well with experimental observations reported elsewhere. However, there remains some room for the improvement of the heat transfer boundary condition at the bush surface, especially for large values of the Peclet number.
