Abstract
The 27Al nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectrum of NaAlO2 solutions of pH 9.5-12.0 is consistent with the presence of the Al(OH)4- anion. Flash photolysis of an aqueous solution of NaAlO2 and K2S2O8 of pH 9.5-12.0 gives rise to a transient species with an absorption maximum at 610 nm (ε{lunate}=75 m2 mol-1). The pKa value and reduction potential of the radical are found to be 10.8 and 1.5 V respectively. The rate constants for the oxidation of several organic compounds have been determined. © 1993.
