Abstract
The solvation energies and solvent transport numbers for silver acetate in water-acetonitrile mixtures at 30 degree C were determined by solubility and EMF measurements. The solubility of the salt increased with the addition of acetonitrile up to a molefraction X//A//N of 0. 2 and thereafter decreased with further addition of the same. A continuous decrease of the transfer energy of silver ion and a gradual increase of the same for acetate ion were observed with the addition of acetonitrile. The solvent transport number, DELTA , of acetonitrile is positive and a maximum was observed at X//A//N equals 0. 45. The results are interpreted in terms of selective solvation of the salt in these solvent mixtures.
