On the phase measuring property of the exclusive-or gate

The phase measuring property of the EXCLUSIVE-OR gate has been discussed. A certain sub-class of EXCLUSIVE-OR gates has been considered in some detail, and for these, a simple theory of response has been worked out, to squaring amplifier output waveforms that are trapezoidal rather than square. Arising from this, it has been shown that by proper choice of gate, within the considered sub-class, and by the appropriate design of the chosen gate, a fairly accurate indication can be obtained using the simplest kind of squaring amplifiers. © Taylor and Francis Group, LLC.
