A new method for linear recording in holography

It is shown that a time-dependent phase modulation of the object or reference beam produces a high effective reference-to-object beam intensity ratio, while the actual reference-to-object beam intensity ratio is not high. This helps in the linear recording of holograms. The use of thin phase materials for recording, in order to maintain reconstruction efficiency, is discussed. © 1972 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
