Abstract
The phases involved in the project for the construction of the longest bridge made of newspaper and cotton rope are discussed. A cable-stayed system was decided to use in the construction because of the efficiency in load transfer offered by the system. The project involved the process of designing, treating the constituent materials, fabricating, and erecting a unique structure made of unconventional materials. Finite-element modeling and analysis of the bridge was carried out to calculate the pretension in all the stay cables to avoid excessive deformation of the deck under load, and to arrive at the length of all the ropes and coordinates of the attachment points before pretensioning.
