Abstract
This paper discusses the study, comparison and analysis of three different phenomenological combustion models and review of those to understand the capabilities of each model in predicting diesel engine combustion details. The effect of various parameters on engine performance characteristics has also been studied. Brief description of each model along with relevant equations is also discussed. The cycle variables and performance parameters for each model are compared. This can give an overall idea of the effect of various processes in diesel engines which helps in the optimization of design parameters. The pressure characteristics and temperature plots are drawn and the results are compared with an available experimental data. Of the three models, two-zone model is superior and predicts results quite satisfactorily.
