Abstract
The mean velocities and turbulent normal- and shear-stresses in the wake of a rectangular cylinder under stationary and galloping conditions are presented in this paper. The results bring out the effects of galloping on the general structure of the near wake and indicate the spatial extent, both in the stream-wise and cross-flow directions, of its influence. For the first time, data on turbulence intensities are provided which can be used to carry out energy calculations on the inner wake of stationary and galloping cylinders; such calculations should go a long way in understanding more clearly the phenomenon of galloping. © 1980, All rights reserved.
