Abstract
Aluminium undergoes anodic dissolution in alkaline solution yielding near limiting currents which are proportional to the pH of the solution. The surface turns grey during the polarisation upto the pitting potentials. The limiting current is associated with the formation of oxide films. The film formation follows the high field assisted growth mechanism of Cabrera-Mott. The results of the l. s. v. can be fitted into an equation of the type suggested by Damjanovic et al.
