Abstract
Based on the fact that the flow behaviour of any bulk solid of mixed particle sizes depends on the properties of its fines content, the present work was taken up to characterize the flow parameters of raw coal fines, since such fines produced during handling of coal in thermal power stations is expected to contribute towards recurring flow problems. For the analysis of flow of any bulk solid in wet conditions, information about its bulk density, major consolidation pressure, intergranular friction, cohesivity and unconfined yield strength are of paramount importance. In view of the significant influence of the moisture and clay present in the coal on its flowability, the flow parameters were characterized with respect to these two variables using a Jenike shear tester. © 1993, Society of Powder Technology Japan.
