Ribbed ferrocement elements for low-cost housing

Abstract
After mentioning the difficulties faced with the ferrocement housing construction, the authors drew their attention to the development of a simple solution for the house construction using ferrocement in an industrialized method. The paper discusses in detail the planning aspects of houses by using the developed multipurpose element following the principles of modular coordination, proposing different plans for the various income groups in the society. Details on the structural planning, jointing and detailing of these houses, and mass scale manufacturing process are also discuss in detail. Cost comparison of ferrocement with conventional construction method shows that the material is cost competitive.
