Abstract
Non-linear dynamic response of simply supported rectangular sandwich panels with isotropic cores has been investigated for pulse and shock type excitations. The problem has been analysed by using a series solution space-wise and the unconditionally stable Houbolt scheme for time-wise integration. In order to check the reliability of the method, the totally damped static solution has been obtained by introducing artificial Houbolt damping and the results have been compared with the available solutions. The large amplitude dynamic response has been investigated for a uniform pressure pulse type of load and the effect of aspect ratio and core modulus on the response has been studied. The practical problem of response to sonic booms (or N waves) also has been studied and comparison has been made between linear and non-linear responses. © 1975 Academic Press Inc. (London) Limited.
