Abstract
The lattice heat capacity of holmium and terbium is calculated using the frequency distribution function obtained from a lattice dynamical model for h.c.p. metals based on Keating's approach. The magnetic contribution to the specific heat of these rare earth metals is evaluated by subtracting the lattice and electronic contributions from the Cv data of these metals. The total energy of ordering W is obtained from the magnetic specific heat curve. The magnetic contribution to the total entropy, Smag, is also calculated for Ho and Tb and compared with the theoretical value of NK ln (2J + 1). Copyright © 1979 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA
