Abstract
The polarographic reduction of oxygen from molten acetamide at 85 degree C was reported. The similarity of the electrochemical processes involved in the two solvents-water and acetamide are pointed out in this study. 1,4-benzoquinone(BQ), 1,4-naphthoquinone(NQ), 9,10-phenanthraquinone(PAQ) and 9,10-anthraquinone(AQ) from a solution in molten acetamide containing 1 M sodium acetate was investigated. It is found that all the four quinones exhibited a single polarographic wave. The reductions are apparently reversible two-electron processes.
