Abstract
A finite element analysis of single-bay two-span continuous cylindrical shells subjected to support settlements and experimental results on model studies are presented. The experimental investigation confirms the validity of the finite element analysis. Support settlements cause a considerable magnitude of additional stresses in the shell which may lead to failure. Critical zones are identified and the possibilities of failure are discussed for each case. © ASCE.
