Analysis of certain types of display devices for 3-D TV system

Abstract
A new d.c gas discharge panel for the development of a gas discharge display tank to display the 3-D image is proposed. A system providing 3-D image pickup, transmission and display is described. Gas discharge display matrices containing phosphors producing different colors needed for the display of color TV image are also described for their suitability to form a display tank. The unique advantage of the transparency offered by the commercially available ‘Digivue’ display panels is exploited for constructing a display tank for the reproduction of 3-D images. Also, incandescent displays and liquid vapour devices are examined for the fabrication of display matrix and tank. Finally, a comparison is made of the various types of displays considered in this paper. Copyright © 1981 by The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc.
