Abstract
Infrastructural application of steel fibre reinforced concrete to access hole covers are explored in this paper. It has been shown that bar reinforced concrete covers further reinforced with fibres are suitable candidates for access hole covers in medium and heavy duty applications. The covers possess increased cracking strength due to the crack arresting mechanism of the fibres. A greater ultimate load also results thanks to the increase in shear strength afforded by the fibres. Further, these covers also possess good energy absorption capacity and local anti-splitting characteristics due to the presence of fibres everywhere in the mass.
