Abstract
Anthracene in its first excited singlet state reacts with aniline rapidly in benzene as shown by decrease in fluorescence intensity and absorbance of solutions with time of irradiation. An exciplex is postulated as a reactive intermediate yielding 1:1 adduct in a very rapid step. A mechanistic proposal is presented. © 1973, Walter de Gruyter. All rights reserved.
