Droplet breakup at a co-flowing fluid-fluid interface in a microchannel

Abstract
Here we report a novel phenomenon of droplet breakup across a co-flowing immiscible fluid - fluid interface in a microchannel. Experimental results reveal that the breakup happens only when the capillary number is greater than a threshold. We have studied the variation of daughter droplet diameter and volume fraction with respect to the size of mother droplet. We also report behavior of particles encapsulated in droplets during breakup.
