Abstract
A two-degree-of-freedom lumped parameter analogue and its closed form solution have been described to predict the behaviour of embedded block foundations under coupled rocking and sliding vibrations. The proposed approach is based on a modified adoption of lumped parameter analogues for footings vibrating on the surface of an elastic half-space. The theoretical solutions for the case of harmonic excitations are presented in the form of graphs for a given set of parameters involved therein. The reliability of the theoretical solutions is examined with the help of data obtained from a comprehensive program of field vibratory tests.
