Abstract
A spherical reflector-distributed-focus system can be effectively used for the collection of solar energy. The absorber, which is always pointing towards the sun and whose axis passes through the centre of curvature of the reflector, tracks the sun continuously for maximum collection of solar radiation. The optical system is analyzed and variations in optical concentration along a cylindrical absorber are determined for the case of normal incidence on the reflector. The effect of mirror reflectivity on optical concentration has been discussed. The change in concentration caused by the location of the sun with respect to the zenith is also considered. The analysis includes the practical case when a glass cover surrounds the absorber. © 1986.
