BIPOLAR JUNCTION TRANSISTORS AND FETs: EVOLUTION AND CURRENT TRENDS.

A review of discrete bipolar and field effect transistors is given, including high frequency and power bipolar transistors, power MOSFETs and power JFETs. The evolution of these devices over the past three decades and the current trends are given. The way in which developments in the field of LSI/VLSI technology influence the technology of discrete devices is brought out. The Indian experience in this field is touched upon.
