Abstract
It has been recently observed that pulsations introduced into the flow of a fuel-air mixture have a profound influence on the stabilization characteristics of different types of flame holders. Further investigations, by the authors, using shadow photography of flames revealed some interesting patterns behind bluff-body flameholders. The lengths of the recirculation zones were subsequently measured by injecting sodium chloride solution into the wakes. With pulsations, the length of the recirculation zone is always shortened. © 1973, Combustion Institute. All rights reserved.
